Sheri ParkerFibers & Textiles | Painter | Art Educator Drawing was one of my earliest memories from my childhood: scribbling, mark-making, and quickly putting down vibrant colors. I enjoy the processes of watercolor painting and embroidering, and I love documenting my art making processes. I love seeing artwork evolve from start to finish because each art piece is a journey and tells a story. On this website you will find images of my work in progress and you will see collections of my work grouped together. __________ I am drawn to artwork that tells a story. Most of my watercolor paintings involve portraits of myself, my daughters, actresses in my favorite costumes, and interior spaces of rooms that have colorful walls. They are painted collages of all of the beautiful objects, people, and spaces I am drawn to. __________ Fiber arts has been an area of study for me since I was young. Fiber arts focuses on the importance of the materials you work with and the processes you use. I am drawn to thread, fabric, colorful dyes, and surface texture. I love creating wearable art pieces and embroidered portraits. When I embroider, those aspects of drawing, scribbling, and working with vibrant colors are what I am trying to capture in my embroidery artwork. I want my artwork to be vibrant and energetic by capturing the motion of the embroidery stitching and the repetitiveness of the lines. I want my stitching to reference the energy of a kid coloring in a coloring book. ___________ I have been an art educator since 2010. I began teaching at the elementary level and I have made my way up to teaching high school. I love teaching high school students because I can teach more advanced art techniques. I currently teach: Art 1, Art 2:3D Design, Art 2: Fibers and Textiles, and AP3D2. Enjoy. Sheri Parker |
